Punjab and Haryana High Court Took Cognizance of Cases Against MLA’s and MP’s

A Division Bench Comprised of Justice Karnajit Singh and Justice Rajan Gupta of the Punjab and Haryana High Court took suo moto cognizance and Seeking details from the trial court of the pending cases against the MLA’s and MP’s. The said bench ordered the Trial Court to send the details of the cases pending against MLA’s and MP’s.


The PIL was filed with the intent to get speedy trial of the cases involving sitting and not only seeking the details of former MLA’s and MP’s of Punjab, Chandigarh, and Haryana but also issuing directions for the speedy disposal of the cases.


A petition was filed before the Supreme Court to reduce criminal activities in politics. The petitioner also pleaded with the Supreme Court to issue an order to provide appropriate set up of Special courts to decide the cases connected with elected representatives. The petitioner also urged the Supreme Court for the issuance of directions regarding the application of Important Electoral Reforms.


Further, The Bench has also looked for information regarding the pending cases with Various Central Agencies such as The Enforcement Directorate, CBI, etc.
