Lawyer shot dead in UP Shahjanpur District Court

A 38-year-old lawyer was shot in the head on Monday afternoon in Shahjahanpur District Court in Uttar Pradesh. The horrific murder led to the arrest of a suspect. 

According to police, advocate Bhupendra Singh from Jalalabad tehsil went to an office on the third floor of the District Court to meet an officer in connection with a case where a gunshot was heard and he was found dead, with a country-made pistol lying near the dead body.

Although no suspects were found in the area, police tried to investigate this case from the point of suicide, murder. The lawyers of the court went on strike and requested the accused’s arrest.

The case was thus claimed to be solved by police as the accused had been arrested. 

“The case has been worked out on the basis of CCTV footage. An advocate has been arrested. He accepted the crime. IG Range Bareilly is at the scene of the crime and interrogating the accused. Old enmity is the cause of the crime,” said Uttar Pradesh Senior Police Officer Prashant Kumar.   

Bahujan Samajwadi Part’s Chief Mayawati called the incident sad and shameful. She also questioned the irresponsible attitude of the UP government in maintaining the law and order of the state

“The murder of a lawyer in the premises of the UP Shahjahanpur District Court is very sad and shameful as it exposes the legal and regulatory situation in the BJP government here and the claims made by the government in this regard. The question now finally arises who is safe,” Mayawati tweeted in Hindi shortly after the incident.
