Tamil Nadu Government directed by SC to Allot Christian Merit NEET Students to CMC Vellore

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court of India directed the State of Tamil Nadu to allot students for Post Graduate admissions to the Christian Medical College Vellore (CMC Vellore) for the academic year 2021-22 from the merit list of NEET Applicant students that were belonging to the Christian minority. This was scheduled to take place after counselling was conducted by the State Selection Committee.

A bench that was comprising of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Nageswara Rao had issued the direction in a writ petition form by Christian Medical College Association, Vellore, which sought the removal of the Selection Committee’s letter wherein the State of Tamil Nadu had sought to strictly impose the state policy of reserving fifty per cent of the seats for the undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in Ch College Vellore.

The Bench had in addition to this clarified that it is not dealing with all submissions made by the Counsels and that expressing any view of this sort may be detrimental to either side during the final hearing.
