The policy of paid vaccination for 18-44 years is arbitrary: SC

The prima facie observation made by the Supreme Court over the center’s vaccination policy under which paid vaccination will be available for the people of the age group between 18-44 is termed to be irrational and arbitrary.

The court came up with the reasoning that during this pandemic and seeing its fatality, it is very important even for the people of the age group of 18-44 to be vaccinated although the priority may differ on a scientific basis.

This was the observation made by the three-judge bench consisting of Justices DY Chandrachud, L Nageswara Rao, and S Ravindra Bhat.

The court further made it a point that this COVID virus is capable of mutation which is making it more fatal and hence is a threat for this age group also.

The court also made it mandatory for the central government to respond to the court’s observation by filing an affidavit and directed the union to review the paid vaccination policy.
