Amar Preet Singh Deol appointed as the new Advocate General of Punjab

Amar Preet Singh Deol who is a senior advocate has been appointed as the new Advocate General of Punjab. A notification in this regard was issued today that reads as follows:

“The Governor of Punjab by exercising the powers conferred on to him by the Constitution of India under Article 165, is pleased to appoint Shri Amar Preet Singh Deol, senior advocate of Punjab and Haryana High Court… as the Advocate General of Punjab with effect from the date he assumes charges of his office.”

This comes just days after Atul Nanda- senior advocate resigned from the post of AG on September 18, shortly after the resignation of the chief minister of Punjab, by quoting constitutional convention and pointing out that his appointment was coexistent with the CM’s appointment.

Deol had recently made headlines when he appeared as counsel for the former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, in a 29-year-old kidnapping case.

Delivering a mail to his party, Atul Nanda announced his resignation on September 18 as he thanked all his colleagues and junior lawyers for working long hours, weekends and holidays, often at personal expenses for cases preparation so that their office could shine in the Court.
