Best Practices for Virtual hearings notified by SC

On Monday the Chief Justice of India had expressed his unhappiness with regards to the lawyers in court attending the virtual hearings through their mobile phones. In accordance with this, the Supreme Court of India has notified the best practices for virtual court proceedings which asks all advocates to avoid joining hearings through their mobile phones.

All Advocates and lawyers have been requested to join the application, Cisco Webex in order to join the court hearings through Desktops or Laptops, that is with a stable internet connectivity, to help avoid any sort of disruptions or disturbances in the court proceedings and inconvenience to the Judges while hearing a case.

Due to the alarming matter of the rising number of cases of the omicron variant of COVID- 19, the Supreme Court has again returned to the virtual mode of hearing cases. The Court has decided to conduct all the hearings through the virtual mode for 2 weeks starting from January 3, 2021. The Court also further decided to hear all the matters in the virtual mode from 7th January with the Benches sitting at the Residential Offices, and take up only urgent matters from 10th January.
