Even Animals Have Right To Live With Respect And Dignity: Delhi HC

Reiterating that every dog is a territorial dog, the Hon’ble Delhi High Court has remarked that stray dogs have the right to food and citizens have a right to feed them and issued a set of guidelines for feeding and treatment of community dogs.

The Hon’ble Single Judge Bench headed by Hon’ble Justice Jr Midha said that feeding of the community canines has to be carried at such places designated by the AWBI in consultation with Resident Welfare Associations or Municipal Corporation.

Further, the Hon’ble Court has directed that all law enforcement authorities have to make sure that persons who feed stray dogs do not get hurt or harassed at the feeding places and to implement AWBI Revised Guidelines dated 26.02.2015.

The Hon’ble Court which has set up a committee for proper implementation of the said guidelines also directed AWBI to bring awareness that even animals have the right to live with respect and dignity, through Television, various Newspapers, and Social Media.
