5-star covid facility for Judges and their families- Delhi HC closes suo moto case

The Delhi High Court has been informed on Thursday that the Delhi government has withdrawn its order to provide 5-star covid facilities for the judges and their families at the Ashoka Hotel, following the court order in the Suo Moto case.

A division bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli has so-called off the suo motu proceedings that the issue and newspaper reports were taken into consideration of the same.

During the hearing, the Court observed Adv. Santosh Kumar said that the Delhi government order had established 100 covid-19 beds in the Ashoka Hotel for judges and judicial officers, which has been withdrawn following the court order in this case.

The Delhi Government order dated 28 April 2022 passed by SDM Geeta Grover stated that the government had withdrawn the order with immediate effect that 100 rooms were required in the Ashoka Hotel to establish the covid facility for the judges.

The Court clarified that unlike the order, the Delhi High Court has not made any such request. The court has asked the Delhi government to take corrective steps in the context of the order, otherwise the court will quash it.

The bench had said that the order was highly misleading as no such request has been made by the High Court and no communication has been made in this regard.
