After an alarming spike in Corona cases in the national capital in recent weeks, the Delhi High Court today slammed the Kejriwal Government. The court asked why did it waited till the court intervened to take steps such as reducing the number of people attending weddings to 50 to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Delhi witnessed the highest single-day COVID-19 fatalities on Wednesday.  Bench of Justices Hima Kohli and Justice Subramonium was hearing a petition seeking increase in the COVID-19 testing numbers in the national capital and getting speedy results filed by Rakesh Malhotra.

“The bell should have rung loud and clear when the numbers were spiralling. Why did you not wake up when you saw the situation was deteriorating? The Delhi Government should understand the testing through RAT is not fulfilling the purpose. There is a need to increase the testing through RT-PCR,” the court said.

Justice Hima Kohli said, “It is disheartening to note that number of death climbed. Looking at the spread of the infection the pressure is increased on the health facilities in the state. 750 ICU beds will be made available by the Centre as per the statement of Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi”.

“When we issued the order of 80% of ICU beds order in a private hospital, there was a second wave. The sudden spike in COVID cases in the month of October,” said Advocate Satyakam, the counsel for the Delhi Government.

Court asked the Government to file a status report in one week and asked to ensure adequate arrangements at the crematorium for performing the last rites.
