Derogatory remarks by Ex-judge Karnan to be blocked on social media platforms; says High Court of Madras

Madras HC - IAS Officer primarily gets punished with Imprisonment and secondly Fine for Contempt

The High Court of Madras on Tuesday ordered that the authorities have to block the derogatory remarks of the former judge CS Karnan from various social media platforms. The Court said that the damage would rise if the derogatory remarks continue to surface on social media.

Justice CS Karnan was held guilty of contempt of court by the Apex Court his remarks on the SC judges.

The petition by the State Bar Council of Tamil Nadu sought action against the ex- judge; both legal and criminal. The petition also sought an interim direction to block the links consisting of video and ill- remarks by Karnan. The content/videos mainly come from links of websites hosted by Google, Facebook and YouTube.

The Court observed that the remarks by the former judge were uncalled for, scandalised, obscene and it was unfortunate that it came from a person who held such a crucial constitutional position. The remarks were repetitive and indecent.

Further, the bench found that the remarks made by the former judge were prima facie highly derogatory. The remarks were not just against the judges but their families too and that Karnan continued to passed remarks on the female lawyers and the staff as well.
