Hon’ble Justice UU Lalit has been nominated as the executive chairman of the national legal service authorized by the president of India. In this regard, a notification is published stating that the president is nominating justice Uday Umesh Lalit as the executive chairman of the national legal service authority. Earlier it was headed by Hon’ble CJI N.V. Ramana.
NALSA which is a statutory body is formed in the year 1995 under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to fulfil the purpose of providing free Legal Services to the weaker sections of our society. It also organizes Lok Adalats for the peaceful settlement of disputes. Its headquarter is in New Delhi.
Hon’ble Justice Uday Umesh Lalit had enrolled as an Advocate in the year 1983. He started his practice in the Hon’ble Bombay High Court and remains there till December 1985. After 1885, he practised in Hon’ble New Delhi High Court. He was appointed at apex court as the judge in the year 2014 and will retire in 2022.
