A PIL has been filed before the Allahabad HC, seeking a stay on the broadcast of Hindi Web Series- ‘Virgin Bhaskar Season 2’, currently streaming on streaming on subscription-based OTT platforms- ALT Balaji and Zee5.
The plea has been filed by Krishan Kanhya Pal, alleging that the series is defamatory of Devi/ Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar, Sardar of the Maratha Empire in the 1700s. it is contended that the series depicts certain scandalous scenes occurring at the hostel which is named after the hereditary noble, Devi Holkar. The series has hurt the sentiments of the Hindu community as well as people belonging to the shepherd community. It is relevant to mention that in the web series, the name of the Girls Hostel has been mentioned i.e, Ahilyabai Girls Hostel, which is highly objectionable and defamatory because the name Ahilyabai is the same name and similar name to Devi Ahilyabai Holkar who was the hereditary noble Sardar of the Maratha Empire. Thereby mentioning this name, t is hurting the sentiments of the public at large, across India as well as other countries of the world.
The petitioner sought to pray that the broadcast of the show be stayed and the show directors/ channel owners be directed to remove the objectionable content there from.
BJP MP Dr. Vikas Mahatme also took to Twitter to criticize the series for dishonoring Devi Holkar. He had called for agitation to protest the streaming of such content, following which ALT Balaji Production tendered a public apology on Instagram and informed that the impugned scene has been removed.
