Twitter user Sameet Thakkar who was arrested for tweets against the Thackerays, current CM Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aditya Thackeray. The court on Friday, extended his four-day initial remand to 2nd November.
Sameet was arrested from Rajkot for his alleged remarks against Uddhav Thackeray and the “penguin” remark against Aditya Thackeray. It was also alleged that while being brought to the court Sameet’s face was covered with a black cloth and he was tied with a rope. Thousands of twitter users came to his support citing the alleged inhuman behavior he was subjected to for merely exercising his right to freedom of expression and criticizing the Thackeray duo. Several have asked the State Human Rights Commission to intervene in the matter.
The police stated that Sameer is a functionary and supporter of BJP. However, the BJP denied the Sameet’s involvement in the party or in its IT Cell. Thakkar who has almost 60,000 followers on twitter called CM Thackeray a “Modern day- Aurangzeb and Aditya Thackeray a “Baby Penguin”. This had led to a Shivsena leader filing a complaint against him for his allegedly derogatory remarks.
