Sameet Thakkar granted bail by the Bandra Court; to be released soon

Sameet Thakkar, a twitter user who was arrested on October 24th from Rajkot, Gujarat; was granted bail by the Magistrate Court, Bandra, Mumbai. Thakkar was arrested for his alleged objectionable tweets against the current Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Shiv Sena leader, Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aditya Thackeray.

Sameet, who is a resident of Nagpur, was granted bail on Monday, he was arrested by Sitabuldi Police Station Nagpur’s police officers. The Supreme Court, however, had refused to hear the interim bail plea and consolidation of all three FIRs against him to Nagpur. He was asked to move to the High Court instead. The petition was filed on behalf of Sameet Thakkar under Article 32 of the Indian Constitution.

Thakkar was granted bail after 21 days in custody. Over the last few months, he was arrested for three times, regarding which his brother had also met the Governor of Maharashtra.

Sameet’s lawyer Advocate Raspal Singh Renu confirmed that he was granted bail on a surety of Rs. 25 thousand. The Maharashtra Government said in the Supreme Court that they will not oppose the bail.
