The Telangana High Court on Monday directed the state government to issue COVID-19 guidelines within 48 hours to reduce footfall in liquor shops, restaurants, marriage halls, and theaters, among other crowded places.
A division bench of Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy, hearing a batch of PILs (PILs) on COVID-19 issues, sought some form of sanctions over the weekend as part of the preventative measures of COVID-19.
The bench expected the state government to take an independent decision despite the guidelines of the central government.
The Advocate General informed the court that the state government was following the Centre’s guidelines.
The court said that the government would have to implement curfew/lockdown as one of the measures during weekends wherever necessary to restrict congestion.
The bench further said, “We will review. We will consider passing the appropriate order (at the next hearing).”
It posted the case on 23 April, directing the government to file a report earlier.
