Vizag Gas leak: SC adjourns appeal against NGT order

On Thursday, the Supreme Court adjourned the appeal against National Green Tribunal (NGT) filed by LG polymers. As per the direction of the court the South Korean company to deposit Rs.50 crore and a committee to form for the further inquiry of tragedy.

Justice U.U Lalit, Justice Vineet Saran and Justice S. Ravindra Bhatt directed appellant to file a response to the 28th May inquiry report within 10 days and further proceedings before NGT to be deferred till further order.

Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for appellant in today’s hearing sought for the matter to be listed at the end of the board as hearing would require half an hour to one hour.

He also submitted that matter would now be taken up next week and he had showed the orders of the Supreme Court to the NGT. Justice U.U Lalit informed that, it would not be possible to hear the case today.

Rohatgi said that as it was not possible to file the report to the 28th May report before the NGT and post 1st June the report is accepted, when asked by Justice Lalit whether the report has been filed.

The bench noted the same and provide the appellant last opportunity to file the report within next 10 days.

The matter is schedule on 16th November at the end of the board.
