After the retirement of Chief Justice Gita Mittal with effect of notice dated December 8th, she will leave the office today after the farewell. On this the central government appointed Justice Rajesh Bindal who was the senior most Judge of the Jammu & Kashmir HC as acting Chief Justice of the same.
Justice Bindal obtained his law degree from Kurukshetra University in the year 1985 and joined this profession in Punjab & Haryana HC. He was elevated as Judge of P&H HC in 2006. He remained the chairman of Committee constituted pursuant to Resolution 7 which was adopted in Chief Justices’ Conference, 2016 which was for framing and drafting Electronic Evidence. During his tenure in the P&H HC he disposed of almost 80,000 cases and before his transfer to J&K HC he was heading various committees like Computer Committee, Arrears Committee.
At present he is chairman of Finance Committee, Building Infrastructure Committee, and Chairman of Jammu & Kashmir State Legal Services Authority. He is also the Chairman of the committee constituted for conducting assessment for optimal use of technology by NALSA and State Legal Services Authorities which include artificial intelligence.
“When God closes one door, he opens palace doors for you; I truly believe that. I’m sure another door will open for me tomorrow,” said Justice Gita Mittal in her farewell speech.
