Alignment of key Bypasses to be changed after SC order

The Supreme Court observed that a contract is void if prohibited by a statute under a penalty, even without express declaration that the contract is void

The Supreme Court has passed an order to reduce the width of the Char Dham all weather roads to 5.5 metres. The agency implementing the same is now changing its alignment for key bypasses on the Tanakpur-Pithoragarh stretch so as to avoid cutting of over 4,000 trees.

LD Mathela who is an executive engineer from National Highway & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd and who is overseeing the construction of the Tanakpur-Pithoragarh stretch while confirming the development said that one bypass has been cancelled while the alignment of 2 others is being changed.

He also said that- “We had to cancel the construction of 9.5 km long bypass near Champawat, while we are changing the alignment of two other bypasses, one 9.9km long bypass near Mohabbat region & another 17km long bypass in Pithoragarh,”
