Arnab Goswami moves to SC after Bombay HC rejects bail application

Editor in chief of the republic TV, Arnab Goswami was arrested on 4th November for abetment of suicide of two individuals. The case which was closed due to political reasons in 2019, has been re- opened by the Deceased’s daughter after which the Raigad Police arrested goswami.

He prayed for bail at the Bombay High court contending the detention to be illegal, which was rejected.

A Division Bench of Justices SS Shinde and MS Karnik of the Bombay HC opined that the remedy to apply for regular bail under Section 439 of the Code of Criminal procedure shall remain unaffected and no case was made out for Goswami’s release under its extraordinary writ jurisdiction and therefore rejected the bail application.

Lastly, the court also said that it will be hearing the case in December when the plea to quash of FIR will be heard.

In light of these circumstances, Arnab Goswami moved the SC praying for bail.
