Centre Extends Validity of Driving Licenses, Registrations, Fitness Certificates & Permits That Expired Since Feb 1 Till 31

The validity of all the documents that expired since February 1, are extended by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. In an advisory issued by the Ministry to all states and Union Territories, document such as driving licences, permits and registration are valid till December 31, 2020. As per Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, ‘documents’ include Fitness Certificates, Permit (all types), Driving License, Registration or any other document.

In the light of this inadvertent situation, the decision has been taken after considering all pros and cons of the grim situation continuing due to conditions for prevention of spread of COVID-19 across country.

The Ministry bhar earlier issued advisories on 30th June and 9th March 2020 this year regarding the extension of the validity till Sept 30, 2020 owing to this current situation of epidemic.

The advisory isssued by the Ministry states that- “Taking into consideration the pandemic situation still continuing due to continuous for prevention of spread of COVID-19 across the country, it is advised that the validity of all the above referred documents whose extension of validity of could not or not likely be granted due to lockdown and which had expired since Feb 1, 2020 or would expire by Dec 31, 2020, the same may be treated to be valid till 31st December, 2020. Enforcement authorities are been advised to treat such documents valid till Dec 31, 2020. It would actually help the citizens in availing transport related services.”

All the states and Union Territories are been advised by the Central and to implement the advisory issued by them in letter and spirit, so that all the transporters giving out essential service and not harassed and manipulated unnecessarily.
