Complaint about non-availability of Covid-19 vaccine in India- Allahabad HC to discuss with ICMR today

To enquire about the status of development/ administration of vaccine for Covid-19 virus, the Allahabad High Court has expressed its inclination to get in touch with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Justice Siddhartha Varma and Justice Ajit Kumar has asked the Central Government to put it in touch with the authority to verify the allegations of administration of COVID vaccine in foreign countries.


The Order states,

“A general complaint amongst the Members of the Bar is that though the vaccine is being administered in other countries but somehow it is not being administered in our country. To verify this fact whether the vaccine is being administered in other countries, we direct the Central Government’s counsel to help us to get in touch with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) through Video Conferencing.”

With over 90% efficacy, global pharma corporations ‘Pfizer’ and ‘Moderna’ announced that their respective COVID vaccines. Certain bar members claimed that the vaccine is being administered to the citizens in foreign countries.


The Court has thus asked the Central Government Counsel to arrange a virtual meeting of the Court with the ICMR, today at 3.30 PM, during hearing of the suo-moto case titled “In-Re Inhuman Condition At Quarantine Centres And For Providing Better Treatment To Corona Positive“.

Deployment of police personnel on all roads, in continuation of its order to constitute a task force, to ensure that all the persons wear masks in public spaces, Court ordered.


The Court recorded in its order,

“Senior Superintendent of Police, Prayagraj is present in the Court. He himself has stated that he would personally look into the matter of deployment of police personnel in the city and shall also see that sustained efforts are made to ensure that people do wear masks as a rule,”
