The High Court of Delhi bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Prateek Jalanon Wednesday has asked the Centre to inform it if e-commerce entities such as Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, etc are complying with the requirement of displaying “country of origin” on products being sold on their platforms.
The court has directed the Centre to file a fresh affidavit after verifying what the e-commerce sites claims and whether are complying with relevant laws or not. The court also asked to keep in mind the objection which was raise by the petitionerthat the country of origin on products are still not clear and does not cease to be ambiguous.
The has made such recommendations while hearing a PIL file by an advocate AmitShukla who seeks to ensure that the e-commerce platforms mention the country of origin clearly on each and every products they sell on their platform.
