Letter Petition filed against Alleged Corruption & Irregularities in Minority Scholarship Scheme to be heard by the High Court of Jharkhand

Jharkhand HC Observed that Retrospective Application Of 10% EWS Quota Is Against Articles 14 & 16 Of The Constitution

A letter petition was filed at the Jharkhand High Court which is listed to be heard on November 27, 2020. The letter petition was regarding the alleged corruption activities taking place in the Minority Scholarship Scheme and requested the court to take up suo moto cognizance of the matter.

Minority Scholarship Scheme is authorized by the Ministry of Minority Affairs through the National Scholarship Portal. Advocate MD Shadab Ansari moved the letter petition alleging irregularities and rampant corruption activities.

It is alleged that through the misuse of Aadhaar Card, payments are made to those who are not even eligible under this scheme. Further, that there is alleged that there is large scale involvement of school authorities, bank officials, Govt. officials, etc.

In the letter petition, the advocate emphasized that poor and the needy that actually need the scholarship are not getting the benefits whereas the non-eligible ones are reaping the scholarship funds.

Ansari requested the High Court of Jharkhand to take Suo moto cognizance and direct the DGP to set up an SIT team of senior officials to investigate the matter and prosecute the persons involved in siphoning of the scholarship funds.
