Patient alleged of being raped while on Ventilator; National Commission for Women takes Note

National commission for women moves SC challenging Bombay High Court skin- to- skin judgement

The National Commission for Women (NCW) in a press note said that it came across a media report of a 21 year old woman who was allegedly raped while she was on a ventilator. The woman was admitted in a private hospital in Gurugram.

The NCW wrote to the Police Commissioner of Gurugram regarding the matter and had shown its concern about the safety of women and increasing crimes against them. The Commission also directed the Hospital Authorities to send a report about the action taken.

After the woman alleged of rape, an FIR was registered after she made a complaint to her father when she gained consciousness on October 27th. A case has been registered at the Sushant Lok Police Station by the police.

The Police Commissioner said the investigation has begun, CCTV footages are being examined and it is being ascertained whether the accused works at the Hospital or not.

The Commission is disturbed by the negligence of Hospital Authorities and lack of safety for women and also asked the Police to take prompt actions and sought a detailed report on the action taken. The NCW also wrote to the Police to adhere to the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to complete the investigation in a period of two months in cases of sexual assault.
