POCSO Court Convicts a man for Lifetime Imprisonment for Rape on 6-year Girl

A man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Mirzapur Court for raping a 6-year-old, mentally disabled Dalit girl, finishing the trial in 24 days. 

In delivering its decision on Friday, the Court, formed under the provisions of the Law on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, also levied a fine of Rs 1 lakh on Rajesh Yadav, a convict. 

Expediting the court, it was concluded flatly by Special Judge Achhe Lal Saroj 24 days after the police filed the charge sheet against the accused Yadav on January 19 of this year, with the court taking cognizance of the charge sheet a few days later, the prosecution counsel added.

The incident itself took place on January 7, 2021, when the accused tricked the girl with a speech disability to a forest in the Madihan Police Station area near her house. Since raping the girl and leaving her profusely injured, the accused fled the scene, the prosecutor said. 

As members of the family found the missing child, her mother filed a report with the police, identifying Yadav as the defendant. Investigating officer Prabhat Rai had her statement registered with the help of a specialist after the girl’s medical test as the accused suffered from speech disability and filed the charge sheet on January 19 in the case. 

The Court held an expeditious hearing, taking the case seriously and held the behind the bar in 24 days.
