Republic TV sends legal notice to Indian Express for the story on Arnab Goswami

The popular News channel Republic TV has recently filed a legal notice against The Indian Express for an article that is published on the 25th. The article that was titled ‘Arnab Goswami paid me $12,000 and Rs 40 lakh to fix ratings: Partho Dasgupta’ was seen as a direct attack at Republic TV’s editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami. Republic TV sent a cease and desist letter to the national newspaper through Phoenix Legal. The news channel also called for an unconditional apology and a proposal on monetary compensation for the article. The notice said that the article had a misleading headline and that the newspaper “acted as a judge, jury, and executioner in breach of all journalistic ethics.” The notice also stated that the confession given by Mr. Dasgupta on the 6th of January was not admissible in court since it was not made in front of a legal magistrate. Since the case is still pending in the Bombay High Court the Indian Express may come under “criminal contempt of court” for spreading false information.
