The three-judge bench of CJI Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice V Ramasubramaniam on Monday pleaded the girl’s advocate, advocate VK Biju on a petition filed by the Supreme Court on Monday seeking a termination of 26 weeks of pregnancy to a 14-year-old girl. Accepted. In her request, the victim’s lawyer sought time till Friday to take instructions from the victim’s family. Lawyer VK Biju said, “The court may take any stand on the coming Friday. In the meantime I will take instructions and come back to the court. I understand the case seriously. I know that the CJI court has taken a lot of compassion on the victim.”
CJI Bobde commented, “We are happy to hear that. We have only heard the opposite view in the last two weeks.”
Advocate Biju clarified, “Different people are holding different sides. Sometimes attacking the institution. I am always against it. I never support the judges and the institution of such stigmatization.”
The CJI further stated that the problem is not an approach. This Court has always given the highest honor to femininity.
